Optimized web shop, improved UX, new product range

HD+

Future-proof platform for HD+ Stream and more

Logo HD+

HD+ is a leading TV platform and enables high-definition television and additional TV services for satellite and IP users in Germany. The platform is directly integrated as an operator app on many common TV devices and, in addition to the linear offering via satellite or the internet, provides modern streaming and on-demand functions as well as a comprehensive and simultaneous search across the media libraries of various program providers. Currently, with HD+ more than 100 channels can be viewed via satellite in brilliant HD quality: 25 of the largest private broadcasters, three UHD channels including RTL UHD and ProSiebenSat.1 UHD, as well as the free-to-air HD channels.

As part of a platform modernization, diva-e Conclusion took over the further development of the HD+ Shop – with a focus on a stable MVP, an improved user experience, and the introduction of the new product HD+ Stream.

The initial situation

Old web shop, new requirements

The existing webshop had grown significantly over the years, was technically outdated, and was divided into many separate areas for catalog and shop functionality – at the same time, the necessary flexibility to adapt the technology to modern UX and usability requirements was lacking.

The result: The shop’s performance was often unstable, and new products such as “HD+ Stream” could not be offered within the existing solution.

The goal

Optimization of the customer journey for new and existing products and services

The existing processes of the old shop had to be seamlessly transferred, while at the same time creating the technical basis for the new HD+ Stream product. Particular emphasis was placed on optimizing the UI/UX and the checkout process in order to significantly improve the customer journey and offer a modern, intuitive shopping experience.

The implementation
Agile setup for a fast MVP

The implementation was carried out step by step: open issues were first structured into epics – larger work packages that are divided into smaller tasks to manage complexity and better track progress.

The epics were clearly divided between backend and frontend development, allowing both teams to work in parallel. At the same time, a UX/UI side project was launched, specifically optimizing the checkout process.

Since the project had a fixed deadline, it was essential to deliver a functional and high-quality MVP on time. To implement this efficiently, the team grew over the course of the project from initially a few developers to a full team with four backend and five frontend developers, supplemented by resources in QA and product ownership.

The result: a shop with an optimized, completely new look and feel and significantly improved performance.

The new platform now maps all existing shop functions and at the same time offers room for optimization. With the introduction of an almost completely automated release pipeline via “Infrastructure as Code” and a redesigned checkout process, the project created a stable, user-friendly basis.

Today, HD+ can offer new products such as HD+ Stream, which would not have been possible in the old shop. The user experience has been significantly improved, customer care has been relieved, and the technical basis has been designed in such a way that numerous additional features can be flexibly implemented in the future.

Both technically and operationally, the system is now stable, flexible, and future-proof—HD+ can respond quickly to new market requirements.
